Answers to questions about parental controls

Q. What sort of parental controls does the toolbar provide?

A. There are two types of parental controls in the toolbar. The first when turned on blocks sites with adult content or content that would not be appropriate for children. The toolbar uses a number of ways to determine if content is unsuitable and blocks it acordingly. The second type is a site logging system where the toolbar keeps a log of all sites that your children visit. You can review these sites at a later time to make sure your children have not been accessing sites you want to disallow. You can find out more about how to use parental controls in the help by clicking here.

Q. Can I change the sites that the toolbar blocks ?

A. Yes if the toolbar blocks access to a site you would like to get to you can add it to the access list by hand. You can find out more about how to use parental controls in the help by clicking here.

Q. Can I log surfing activity so I can see what my kids have been doing ?

A. Yes you can turn on logging so your toolbar secretly logs all sites your kids visit. You can later see this list by typing in your PIN. You can find out more about how to use parental controls in the help by clicking here.

Q. Can I report a site as inappropriate so you can add it to your list?

A. Yes you can do this. Just go to the site and then from the drop down menu next to the parental traiffc lights select "report current site". This will log the site and we will review this and add it to our list. We welcome your feed back to make our lists more extensive and our product better. A picture of this menu option is given here:

Answers to questions about elertz

Q. What are elertz?

A. elertz are generic, anonymous alerts that can be used by any website to let you know that somthing you are interested in has changed on their site. For example a finance site might let you know when a share price has moved over a certain limit. Someone matching your criteria has just joined a dating site.

Q. What do elertz look like?

A. elertz look like normal book marks that you add to your favoirtes. The only difference is that we use a slightly different icon in the form of a star which looks like this . When the website wants to let you know somthing has changed which you may be interested in the bookmark changes color to be a red star like this . The elertz also contains a special button which is also a star. This star flashes when new elertz are present. Clicking the button opens a window with all your current elertz in it and a link to the content that has changed. You simply click though on this window and your browser will show you the new content.

Q. What sort of sites provide elertz?

A. Our network of sites that provide elertz is growing daily. They vary a great deal but typically are types of sites that provide you with new information like dating, finance, jobs, shopping, property, and blogging websites. Once you have installed the elertz toolbar you can accept elertz from any of these sites.

Q. How do I delete/move and manage my elertz ?

A. You can manage your elertz in the same way as you manage your normal bookmarked favorites. You can delete them or drag them into a folder. It is also possible to manage them by clicking on a toolbar button and open a dialog box which lists all your elertz and allows you to delete them. See the help page here for more details.

Q. How do I stop the star flashing when elertz happen ?

A. Simply click the flashing star on the toolbar and the star will stop flashing and your window of elertz will drop down. You can also change the settings for your elertz to make them quiet so that when elertz happen they do not cause the star to flash. See the help page here for more details.

Q. Are elertz anonymous?

A. Yes! Unlike email alerts they are totaly anonymous and secure. You can also control them easily by just deleting them should a site send you too many elertz that are not useful to you. This makes elertz much more powerful than conventional email alert systems and means you do not have to disclose your email address to websites in order for them to let you know about events on their site.

Q. How do I stop a website sending me elertz ?

A. Simple just delete the elertz from your favorites or open the dialog box and delete them from there.

Answers to questions about the browser eraser

Q. What is a browser eraser?

A. The toolbar includes a program to erase your surfing tracks. This removes all temporary files and cookies and also clears out your browsing history. This means that the address completion is also removed. It means that if someone uses your computer after you they cannot see what sites you have been looking at. This protects your privacy.

Q. Why do I need to erase these files?

A. To protect your privacy from internet sites and also other users of your computer you may like to erase all your browsing tracks. If you hav parental logging enabled this will not erase the logging stored here so you can still keep track of sites your kids visit.

Q. What are cookies and temporary internet files?

A. Cookies and internet temporary files are created by your browser to store a history of sites you have visited on the internet. If you let the list of temoprary files grow too large it slows your computer down particularly at boot time so it is a good idea to keep these to a minimum.
